Nazrul kidnap: Protesters rock Dhk-Ctg highway

Supporters of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) panel mayor Nazrul Islam on Wednesday morning flew into a rage on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway during a demonstration protesting his abduction, reports UNB.
They also rampaged through the highway during the agitation, for the third consecutive day, demanding immediate rescue of Nazrul and his four associates.
The protesters vandalised several vehicles on the highway.
Witnesses said several thousand supporters of Nazrul from ward no. 2 and nearby area under Siddhirganj thana brought out a procession around 9:00am.
Later, they took to the street, staged demonstration torching tyres and put up barricade on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway from Sanarpar to Signboard area, creating a long tailback and causing immense suffering to the passengers.
They also demanded immediate arrest of councilor Nur Hossain and Siddirganj thana Awami league general secretary Yasin Miah for their suspected involvement in the abduction.
Earlier, on Tuesday, lawyers demonstrated and boycotted the court here for the second consecutive day to push for the immediate rescue of abducted lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker.
The blockaders were staging demonstration on the highway while filing this report around 10:50am.
Officer-in-charge of Siddhirganj police station Abdul Matin on Tuesday said their 10 teams have been on a manhunt to rescue the abducted people and arrest the abductors.
NCC panel mayor Nazrul Islam and his four associates were abducted by miscreants from Fatulla area of the city on Sunday.
The other victims are Nazrul’s aides Tajul, Swapan, Liton and his private car driver.
Hours after their abduction, senior lawyer Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver were also abducted while they were going to Dhaka.
