AL leader killed in infighting at Bogra

A local leader of Awami League was shot and hacked to death by miscreants during a violence cenring establishing supremacy between two groups of the ruling party at Bogra on Thursday night.
The victim was identified as Moazzem Hossain, vice-president of Shakharia union unit of Awami League.
Two activists Nurul and Moazzem also sustained bullet injuries while fleeing after death of Moazzem Hossain. They were taken to Shahid Zia Medical College and Hospital.
Local people said the ward unit AL president Abu Sufian and vice-president Moajjem Hossain were at loggerheads with Nazmul Hasan Samim, brother of a Chhatra League leader Ujjwal, for long. The feuding groups had also clashed in the past for the same cause.
Witness and police said a group of 13 armed men led by Shamim shot at and hacked Moazzem at Anandabazar area at around 8:00pm. Doctors at Shahid Zia Medical College and Hospital declared him dead after was taken there.
Police held five activist of AL including the local leader Kamrul Huda and his associate Palash immidiately after the incident for interrogation.
Later Moazzem’s son Faruq filed a case accusing 18 men including Ujjwal as the main accused.
Senior assistant supeindent of police in Bagra Naziur Rahman said the groups clashed over establishign strongholds in the area. Investigation into the incident is on, he added.
