Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said that his party is ready to take part in election anytime if it is an acceptable one and has the capacity to win it.
‘If participatory and acceptable polls were arranged, BNP surly would participate in it,’ he said, hoping that the government will soon arrange such a poll under a neutral administration.
‘Her (PM) remarks proved that she has already bowed down to people’s expectation,’ Fakhrul said at a press conference at Naya Paltan in the morning.
Fakhrul was replying to the comments of prime minister Sheikh Hasina, who at a press conference at her official Ganabhaban residence on Thursday, ruled out holding of an early election.
Hasina reiterated that the present government would stay in office for five years as per the constitution and the next polls would be held in time.
The BNP spokesperson also dubbed PM’s recent visit to the United Arab Emirates as failure.
‘The tour was nothing but a ‘failed mission’,’ he said, adding that Bangladesh’s main obstacle in UAE – the reopening of labour market- where no progress was made during the visit.
Fakhrul asked the government to release 18 leaders and activists of Jubo Dal, who were arrested this morning.
Police arrested the Jubo Dal leaders and activists as they were holding a demonstration in the capital demanding the release of their leader Moazzem Hossain Alal.
