Five people, including four cops, were injured in a reported gunfight between the police and robbery suspects at Barohatia Pakfirani of Lohagara upazila in Chittagong on early Wednesday, reports United News of Bangladesh.
Lohagara police station officer-in-charge M Shahjahan said that a police team arrested robbery suspect Nazim Uddin at Chunuti of the upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
Later, the police team along with Nazim Uddin launched a drive at Barohatia Pakfirani at about 2:00am on Wednesday to recover firearms, he said.
Sensing the presence of the police team, cohorts of Nazim opened fire forcing the law enforcers to retaliate, Shahjahan said.
Nazim sustained bullet injury during the gunfight while four policemen — sub-inspectors Solaiman and Nurul Islam and constables Khairul Haque and Didar — were also injured in scuffling with the robbery suspects, he added.
Nazim was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital while the policemen were taken to Lohagara upazila health complex.
The police also arrested another robbery suspect, Monir Ahmed, and recovered two guns and five bullets from the spot.
