Maulana Faruqui murder: 8-hr hartal underway peacefully

The half-day hartal enforced by Bangladesh Islami Chhatra Sena, the student front of the Bangladesh Islami Front, demanding arrest and exemplary punishment of the killers of Faruqui, is going on peacefully in the capital Dhaka and the port city Chittagong today.
Assailants killed private television Channel i Islamic programme anchor Nurul Islam Faruqui, 50, by slitting his throat inside his apartment in the capital’s East Rajabazar on August 27.
The strike began at 6:00am and would continue through 2:00pm. However, the flood-affected districts — Gaibandha, Bogra, Sirajganj, Jamailpur, Tangail, Shariatpur, Madaripur, Munshiganj, Rajbari, Faridpur,
Lalmonirhat, Kurigram, Niphamari, Rangpur and Netrokona — would remain out of the purview of the general strike.
The pro-hartal supporters brought out processions in Dhaka and Chittagong cities. The police are on alert at the key points in those cities. No untoward incidents were reported till filing the report at about 9:00am.
Faisal Faruqui, son of the victims, filed a murder case on August 28 with Sher-e-Bangla nagar police station against eight to nine unnamed people.
