12 jailed in Natore for illegal fishing

A mobile court on Wednesday morning sentenced 12 fishermen to three months’ imprisonment each for catching fish from a water-body at Patul Ghat in Naldanga defying a ban during the current monsoon.
The mobile court led by Upazila Nirbahi Officer Sharmin Akter Jahan, an executive magistrate, conducted a drive in Halti Bil area and arrested the 12 fishermen while they were catching fish there in the morning in defiance of a ban imposed by the local administration.
The court also seized 3,000 metres of small-looped illegal fishing net from their possession. Later the arrested were produced before the mobile court which handed down the verdict.
