The Indian Border Security Force returned four Bangladeshis while the Border Guard Bangladesh released one Indian after a flag meeting in Thakurgaon on Thursday afternoon.
The flag meeting was held following abduction of Bangladesh national Md Alamgir, 26, of Shahanabad in Ranishankail, by BSF members which prompted Alamgir’s relatives to abduct an Indian and bring him into Bangladesh. In retaliation, BSF had also abducted three more Bangladeshis.
The intelligence officer of Thakurgaon 30 BGB Battalion, Major Towhid Bin Isaque said members of 121 Kokradoh BSF camp detained Alamgir from Dharmagarh frontier near border demarcation pillar 373/3-R while he was cutting grass at about 2:00pm.
Knowing it, relatives of Alamgir picked up one Indian from border prompting the BSF to abduct three more Bangladeshis, Towhid said.
Afterwards, a battalion-level flag meeting was held between BGB and BSF at about 5:50pm where both sides agreed to return their nationals, he added.
