No ‘grouping’ in city BNP: Mirza Abbas

Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s new convening committee convener of Dhaka Mirza Abbas said that he and Sadeque Hossain Khoka did not indulge in factions within the party.
‘There is no ‘grouping’ among us… Khoka and I do not patronise factions,’ Abbas said.
The new convener, who replaced Khoka as head of Dhaka city BNP, spoke following a maiden meeting held at the Dhaka city BNP office at Nayapaltan in the capital on Wednesday.
‘We have only one group, that is ‘Khaleda Zia group’, he insisted.
He hoped the new committee would work resolutely under the command of the party chairman Khaleda Zia and its senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman.
While responding to a question, he said that the new committee already caused headache to top Awami League leaders.
Abbas said that the leaders and activists of BNP had been demanding for a new committee as the movement ahead of January 5 polls waned.
The 52-member new committee of the Dhaka city unit of BNP with standing committee member Mirza Abbas as convener and Swechchhasebak Dal president Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel as member-secretary was announced on Friday.
