Unidentified people cut tendons of both hands of a four-year old boy at his house at Demra in the city on Thursday afternoon.
The victim Ishfaq Ahmed Bulbul, son of Shah Alam Patwari, is undergoing treatment in the city’s Shahid Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
Ishfaq’s mother Parvin Akhter said her son was watching television
when she went to sleep in the bedroom around midday.
‘I woke up hearing him groan and found his hands bleeding and I wrapped them with a bedsheet.’
Parvin with the help of neighbours took the boy to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where the doctor confirmed that tendons of Ishfaq’s hands were cut. The doctors referred the boy to Suhrawardy Hospital for better treatment. Ishfaq is stated to be in a critical condition.
Demra police officer-in-charge Zahirul Islam said that the boy was undergoing treatment at Suhrawardy Hospital. ‘No case has been filed as yet… Police are investigating to find out the culprits and the reason behind such horrendous crime.’
Ishfaq’s father is a contractor and most of the time stays away at Comilla because of his profession, the police said.
