Transport workers have enforced an indefinite strike on all routes of ten districts in Khulna division since Monday morning to press home their 13-point demands.
Khulna divisional unit of Motor Sramik Union called for the indefinite strike, transport workers said.
The 13-point demands include immediate withdrawal of all kinds of human haulers such as Nasimon, Karimon and Bhatvatis from Khulna–Dhaka highways, legal action against illegal collection of tolls at several points of Khulna-Dhaka routes, arrest of highway robbers and stoppage of police excesses in the name of body checking of passengers.
The general secretary of Khulna divisional unit of Motor Sramik Union Md. Zakir Hossain Biplob said that transport strike had been called for indefinite period and would continue as the authorities concerned failed to meet any of 13-point demands despite assurances given in the past.
‘We have already lost our patience due to breach of trust by concerned officials as they never took any positive step to stop plying of human haulers,’ the Motor Sramik Union leader said.
