Narayanganj mayor Selina Hayat Ivy, also vice-president of city unit of Awami League, on Friday termed Shamim Osman a ‘hypocrite’ and ‘top crime boss’’ in the country.
Addressing at a human chain on boats, Ivy, who is also the adviser of Santrash Nirmul Twaki Mancha, said that Shamim Osman had made it difficult for veteran Awami League leaders like Md Giasuddin, SM Akram and Professor Nazma Rahman to do politics. ‘They chose to avoid confrontation with a bully like Shamim. But I will not watch silently any crimes,’ she said.
The human chain on boats on the river Shitalakkya demanded capital punishment of the killers of Tanvir Mohammad Twaki, a meritorious student.
The body of Twaki, 17, an A Level student and son of local cultural personality Rafiur Rabbi, was recovered from the river Shitalakkya on March 8 two days after he had gone missing on March 6.
RAB is now investigating the Twaki murder case.
Hundreds of people joined the human chain on boats.
`Shamim Osman quite often claims he will resign from politics if anybody can prove he is a godfather. Such claims are sheer hypocrisy,’ Ivy said.
Rafiur Rabbi, convener of the organisation, ward councillor Ashit Baran Biswas, press club president Halim Azad, Juba League district unit president Abdul Kadir, Hafizul Islam, Nagarik Committee district unit president AB Siddik, general secretary Abdur Rahman, Prodip Ghosh, Awlad Hossain, Nikhil Das, Toriqul Islam Sujon and Himangsu Shaha addressed the protesters.
