The police are yet to arrest any person or find out the clue to the killing of former police officer Fazlul Karim in his flat at Pashchim Rampura in the capital Thursday.
The Detective Branch of police only interrogated the driver of the family, Liton, at its office, said the police.
A murder case was filed against unidentified men Friday night, said Rampura police station officer-in-charge Delwar Hossain.
The police are investigating into the murder but none has yet been arrested, he said.
Fazlul’s widow Swapna Karim said that they were not suspecting anyone as Fazlul did not have any enemy who could kill him.
Fazlul’s only daughter Badhon said that her father had a dispute with his brother’s family over a house in their native village at Ramkrishnadi of Sirajdikhan upazila in Munshiganj.
‘The dispute cannot be so extreme that may lead killing of my father,’ she added.
Replying to a question, she said, ‘It was not an incident of mugging…they did not touch anything in the house. The assailants came targeting my father and went away after killing.’
Swapna Karim said the family driver Liton was appointed two weeks ago on trial. ‘I do not know anything about him… and we are not suspecting him as he knew little about us.’
‘However,’ she added, ‘if he was aware after the sound of the gunfire, he could catch the assailants. Al least, he could lock the collapsible gate of the building as he was there at that time.’
The police and the family said that three people had stormed into the house at about 9:30am on Thursday and shot at Fazlul Karim, 65, a former additional superintendent of police in the Criminal Investigation Department, from close range.
The critically wounded Fazlul was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died at about 11:00am.
