Eight killed in road accident

At least eight people were killed and 25 others injured in a triangular collision involving two buses and a truck at Joypura on Dhaka-Aricha Highway in Dhamrai upazila of Dhaka district on Wednesday evening.
Six of the deceased were identified as Dilara, 28, and Jalil, 58, of Dhamrai, Majnu, 50, Awlad, 45, and Montaz, 55, of Saturia in Manikganj, and Korban Ali, 49, of Narail.
Officer-in-charge of Dhamrai police station Abdur Rashid said a Saturia-bound bus of ‘SB Link Paribahan’ from the capital collided head-on with a ‘D Link Paribahan’ bus coming from the opposite direction near Joypura bus stand around 6:00pm.
Soon after the collision, a truck crashed into the two buses on the highway, leaving three people dead on the spot and 33 others injured.
The people of the area and firefighters rescued the injured and took them to different hospitals.
Of them, five died at hospitals.
Of the injured, 11 were whisked off to Enam Medical College Hospital at Savar while 10 others sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Victim Nur Jahan who was undergoing treatment at Dhamrai Upazila Health Complex said the accident occurred due to reckless driving.
‘The driver was driving our bus rashly. Although passengers asked him to drive the bus slowly, he didn’t pay heed to them.’
