Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam on Wednesday said that the prime minister’s invitation to opposition leader Khaleda Zia for dialogue is still valid.
‘They [BNP] are seeking fresh invitation to sit for dialogue. But we have not withdrawn our previous invitation, it is still pending,’ he said, adding that the opposition leader may respond to the invitation anytime.
Addressing AL grassroots leaders and lawmakers of different districts of Dhaka division at Ganabhaban, Syed Ashraf said that the government would invite the opposition again if they want.
‘If necessary we will invite her [Khaleda] again and for hundred times if she [Khaleda] wants fresh invitation,’ he insisted.
BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakrul Islam Alamgir and other BNP leaders have told reporters that the prime minister should set a fresh date for dialogue on a non-party government with the BNP as the 60-hour strike ended on Tuesday.
Syed Ashraf said that it was tough to discuss any complex political issue with the BNP as it was not a normal political party which rather operates in a military style.
He expressed his optimism about the proposed dialogue with the opposition and said that they would continue their efforts to hold talks with the opposition over the election-time interim government and to find out a solution to end the ongoing political impasse.
The AL leader urged the party leaders and activists to show their strength on November 3 by turning the party’s public rally at Suhrawardy Uddyan into a human sea.
AL chief and the prime minister Sheikh Hasina held a meeting with the lawmakers of different constituencies and presidents and general secretaries of Dhaka city, Dhaka district, Narayanganj, Munshuganj, Narshingdi, Gazipur and Manikganj district AL at her official residence on Wednesday.
Meeting sources said that Hasina instructed the sitting lawmakers and nomination aspirants as well as the leaders and activists of her party to invest their all-out efforts to make November 3 rally another historic one.
‘The really is not just for showing our strength, it is for our existence. So, invest your efforts and turn the rally into a human sea so that the BNP-Jamaat-Hefazat never dare to raise the voice against AL,’ a district leader quoted Hasina as saying.
