Case filed against Sylhet BNP leader’s son for threatening life of PM

Two more cases filed in Barisal, Gazipur

A case was filed in Sylhet on Thursday against BNP leader Chowdhury Tanvir Ahammad Siddiquee’s son Chowdhury Irad Ahammad Siddiquee, on charge of threatening the life of prime minister Sheikh Hasina, in a Facebook posting.
The education affairs secretary of Sylhet city unit of the ruling Awami League, Azadur Rahman Azad, also a councilor of Sylhet City Corporation, filed the case with Kotwali police, Thursday morning.
The plaintiff’s counsel Shamsul Islam told New Age that he himself saw the posting uploaded by Irad Siddiquee recently. The lawyer said that the posting said: ‘There is no alternative but to kill prime minister Sheikh Hasina, for restoring democracy.’
He said he also saw a story over the posting on a Bangla daily.
Azad told New Age that the case was filed against Irad Siddiquee for spreading incitement threatening the life of prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
Shamsul Islam told New Age that the case was lodged under section 57 of the Information and Communications Technology Act.
The officer-in-charge of Kotwali police, Sohel Ahmad, confirmed New Age of filing of the case.
‘The case has been recorded with the police station and necessary steps would also be taken in this regard, soon,’ said the police officer, in the afternoon.
Meanwhile, two more cases were lodged in Barisal and Gazipur, respectively, accusing Irad of issuing a life threat to Bangladesh’s prime minister.
Advocate Rafiqul Islam Khokon, also a Jubo League leader, lodged the case under ICT act as complainant with the chief metropolitan magistrate court of Barisal.
Ali Hussain, the CMM of Barisal, accepting the case ordered the officer-in-charge of Barisal Kotwali police to register the case and start an investigation, court sources said.
The officer-in-charge of Barisal Kotwali police, Shah Md. Awlad Hossain, told New Age that after receiving the order, he would act accordingly.
Public prosecutor M Shahjahan of Gazipur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal filed a case with the Senior Judicial Magistrate Court in Gazipur against the Sylhet man.
