An eight-day sculpture exhibition to raise funds for an ailing journalist was organised at the art gallery of Chittagong District Cultural Academy.
The exhibition, titled ‘Muldhara,’ featured 13 sculptures by the sculptor Gonshai Pahlavi, who took the initiative to organise the show in a bid to raise funds for the treatment of local journalist Siddique Ahmed, who had been suffering from cancer for the past one year.
The show was inaugurated on September 22 through a live video message by Siddique Ahmed himself. Chittagong City Corporation Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin was present as chief guest at the inaugural programme.
Among others, the exhibition curator professor Alak Roy, Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry director Ahid Siraj Chowdhury Swapan, and cultural activist Abul Mansur were also present on the occasion. The organisers said their objective was to sell the sculptures to art collectors and to help in the treatment with the proceeds.
Mohammad Ali Hasan, a 4th year economics student of Chittagong University, came to visit the gallery along with some friends on the opening day. He praised the initiative and hoped that the organisers would be able to fulfil their target.
Later, on September 28, a discussion programme was held in which Chittagong University vice-chancellor professor Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury was present as chief guest. The exhibition ended on Thursday.
