The Rapid Action Battalion recovered a gun, semi-automatic AK-22 rifle, two magazines, and 16 rocket flares at a slum in Chittagong city on Tuesday.
RAB-7 director Lieutenant Colonel Miftah Uddin Ahmed said that acting on a tip-off, a team of the force conducted a drive at Bastuhara slum, known as ‘drug hub’, in the city’s Ice Factory road area at about 10:00am and recovered the arms from a house of the shanty town.
Sensing presence of the RAB, residents of the house managed to escape, the RAB official said, adding that they suspected that some militant group collected the arms for conducting subversive activities in the city.
`Usually militants use Ak-22 rifle. Earlier, law enforcers seized several AK-22 rifles from two militant groups—JMB and Shaheed Hamza Brigade— in Chittagong,’ he added.
`We have arrested two owners of the house for interrogating. We are investigating the incident and trying to arrest the absconding miscreants,’ Miftah said.
