Today is the 69th anniversary of birth of the ruling Awami League president Sheikh Hasina, also the prime minister.
Hasina, the eldest daughter of the country’s founding president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, was born at Tungipara in Gopalganj on September 28, 1947.
She has been involved in politics from his student life.
Hasina became prime minister in 1996 for the first time and then in 2008, for the second time and in 2014 for the third time.
Now she is in the United States to attend the UN General Assembly.
The Awami League and and the party-backed student organisation Bangladesh Chhatra League cancelled their scheduled programmes to observe the birth anniversary of Hasina to show respect to late eminent litterateur Syed Shamsul Haq, who died on Tuesday, report United News of Bangladesh.
The central leaders of the party called on the people to extend their support to the Awami League and Hasina so that the government might continue and complete the development works.
They made the call at a discussion organised by Dhaka south city AL.
AL presidium member Obaidul Quader said that they were so happy that their leader stepped into 70.
Presided over by Dhaka City Sounth, Abul Hasnat, the meeting was also addressed, among others, by AL joint general secretary Mahbubul-Alam Hanif, home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, AL agriculture secretary Abdur Razzaque, organising secretary Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury and South city unit general secretary Shahe Alam Murad and others took part at the discussion meeting.
