JU teachers, students demand fair trial in Manoshi killing

Teachers and students of Jahangirnagar University formed a human chain on the campus on Tuesday, demanding fair trial in the case filed in connection with killing of a housewife, Manoshi Rani, who was a relative of a teacher of the university.
Around 100 teachers and students participated in the human chain programme.
While addressing the rally, JU pro-vice-chancellor Professor Abul Hossain said that the killing of Manoshi was unacceptable. ‘We demand exemplary punishment for the killers,’ he added.
Among others, JU treasurer Professor Abul Khair, arts faculty dean Professor Syed Kamrul Ahsan, Professor Shahedur Rashid, Professor Shamsul Alam, Professor Ali Azam Talukder, Professor Mafruhi Sattar, and the deceased’s cousin and associate Professor Shuvra Kanti Dey, attended the human chain.
Manoshi, 21, was killed allegedly by her husband Probir Sarkar and in-laws for dowry at village Bahadurpur in Bogra on September 2.
The family filled a case accusing four, including her husband, his brother and mother, with the Adamdighi police in this connection.
