ANTI-TERRORISM CASE: Hizb-ut-Tahrir ‘chief coordinator’, 5 associates indicted

The Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court on Tuesday indicted suspected Hizb ut-Tahrir chief coordinator Mohiuddin Ahmed and his five associates with ‘terrorism.’
Dhaka metropolitan sessions judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah also posted for October 24 the commencement of the formal trial of the six with recording of testimonies of the prosecution witnesses.
Four accused – Mohiuddin, Tavir Ahmed, Saydur Rahman and Abu Yusuf – were in the dock while the rest two – Alam and Kazi Morshedul Haque Plabon – were in hiding and the court issued warrants for their arrest.
Mohiuddin, also former Dhaka University Institute of Business Administration teacher, was arrested on April 20, 2010.
According to the charge, the accused and some activists of the banned Islamist outfit held a meeting with some anti government leaflets and posters at Takwaya Mosque at Uttara in Dhaka and tried to create panic among common people with firebombs.
Detective Branch of police inspector Nurul Amin pressed a charge against the six accused on February 9, 2013 under the Anti-terrorism Act 2009.
On May 3, 2011 Mohiuddin, who claimed to have no connection with Hizb ut-Tahrir secured bail from the High Court.
