Veteran winger Zahid Hossain’s solo strike in the second half gave Chittagong Abahani a narrow win against Feni Soccer Club in the JB Group Bangladesh Premier League at the Sylhet District Stadium on Tuesday.
Chittagong Abahani, who replaced Slovakian coach Jozef Pavlik with former assistant coach of national team Zulfikar Mahmud Mintu a few days back, moved to the third position with 15 points from eight matches.
Feni, on the other hand, remained on sixth position with nine points from same number of outings.
Chittagong Abahani put pressure from the beginning of the game but wasted several scoring chances in the first half.
Rubel Miah wasted their best chance in the 42nd minute when Praux provided a neat through to the young winger, whose shot went straight to Feni keeper.
Feni forward Chowmrin Rakhain’s volley following a cross of Shahran Halder went just wide in the 50th minute.
Zahid finally broke the deadlock in the 66th minute, when Praux’s initial effort was blocked by a defender and fell into his feet.
The winger made no mistake to send the ball home from goalmouth melee to seal the fourth victory for Chittagong Abahani.
Meanwhile, in the second match of the day, surprise package Rahmatganj MFS returned to the winning way when they managed a hard-fought 3-2 win over Team BJMC.
Nigerian forward Samson Iliasu put BJMC ahead in the 14th minute while Sohel Miah cancelled out the lead in the 21st minute.
Nigerian forward Dawda Cisse helped Rahmatganj to take the lead in the 26th minute but Iliasu scored his second to restore the parity.
However, Alauddin sealed the victory for Rahmatganj in the 57th minute.
Rahmatganj shared the second position with 16points from eight matches, two points behind of leaders Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club.
