Popular folk band Shikor will perform live at 11:40pm today on private television channel Maasranga Television.
At the show, the band will present several popular traditional songs of legendary bards including Fakir Lalon Shah and Hason Raja, as well as encores requested by the audience. The audience will be able to make their requests via phone calls.
‘We are going to present some popular traditional songs at the phono-live concert,’ said Labik Kamal Gourab, one of the vocals of the band.
Labik also said the band enjoys performing in such shows as they come with the opportunity to interact with the audience and get their feedback directly from them.
‘Recorded shows are better organised but a live show has its own charms. It’s fun and engaging, to say the least,’ he said.
He also talked about the band’s upcoming album and its founding principles.
‘We have already prepared some songs for the album. If everything goes well, we will start recording within the next few months. Hopefully, the album can be released in the first half of next year.
‘We, a group of music enthusiasts, founded Shikor with the aim to promote Bangladeshi traditional music and establish it on the global platform. We remain careful not to cause any damage to the originality of the songs but to present them in a way to make them acceptable to the global audience,’ he added.
Shikor, founded in early 2015, has already performed in several prestigious international folk festivals including WOMAD. So far, it has released one album titled Soul of Bengal.
The band’s current band line-up is: Nazrul Islam on dhol, Abdur Rab Fakir, Baby Akhter and Labik Kamal Gourab on vocals, Jalal Ahmed on flute, Mokaddes on dotara, and Biju on ektara, harmonium and percussions.
