The Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Friday demanded immediate resignation of finance minister AMA Muhith and Bangladesh Bank governor Atiur Rahman for the theft of $101 from the central bank’s reserve with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
BNP joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the demand at a briefing at the party’s central office on Friday afternoon.
He alleged that the finance minister and Bangladesh Bank governor were responsible for turning the country’s economy into ‘rubbish.’
‘On which moral rights they [Muhith and Atiur] are still holding the offices after the theft of about Tk 800 crorre,’ Rizvi said in the written statement.
He termed it as the biggest heinous fraudulence in the history.
The BNP leader claimed that the Bangladesh Bank admitted that influential quarters of the incumbent government and organised group were involved in the theft of money.
He said people believe that such big incident of fraudulence is not possible without involvement of people in the government.
