A Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court on Monday placed German national Piotr Szczepan Mazurek alias Thomas Piotr and three City Bank card division staff on a fresh five-day police interrogation each in connection with recent automated teller machine frauds in Bangladesh.
Metropolitan magistrate Abdullah Al Masud passed the order as the four accused were produced before the court after expiry of six-day police remand.
Detective Branch sub-inspector Sohrab Miah, also the investigation officer, sought eight days more to grill Piotr, who was living in Bangladesh on a ‘forged’ Polish passport, and City Bank card division managers Moksed Al Maksud and Rezaul Karim Shahin and executive Refaz Ahmed Rony under police custody to get more information in connection with fraudulence.
In another incident, Piotr attacked a court correspondent of the daily Dhaka Tribune while he was escorting with others to police custody from the court.
The international citizen, who was handcuffed at his left wrist, snatched the mobile phone from Sanaul Islam Tipu with his right hand while Tipu was taking photographs. Piotr also hit his face.
Earlier on February 22, the four accused were placed on six days’ police remand by another Dhaka metropolitan magistrate court.
They were sued under the second clause of section 56 in Information Communication Technology Act.
Thomas Piotr and three City Bank card division officials were arrested on February 21 night and early February 22 for their alleged involvement in ATM card fraudulence.
