Court summons Gayeshwar over remarks on martyrs

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrates’ Court on Thursday summoned the Bangladesh Nationalist Party standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy to appear before it on March 16 for offensive remarks that he made about the martyred intellectuals.
Metropolitan Magistrate Nur Mia passed the order after Abul Kalam Azad, officer-in-charge (Investigation) of Shabagh police station, submitted a probe report over the defamation case filed against Gayeshwar.
Earlier on January 21, additional director of Mercantile Bank Monindra Kumer Nath filled the case with CMM court while the court ordered to probe into the defamation allegations against the BNP senior leader.
Bangladesh Nationalist Party senior leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on December 25 raised question about the figures of Liberation War martyrs and demanded that the names of 30 lakh martyrs of the 1971 be published in newspapers.
Earlier on January 5, AB Siddique, president of a pro-Awami League platform Bangladesh Jananetri Parishad, filed another defamation case against Gayeshwar over the matter.
