Today is the 47th anniversary of martyrdom of Shamsuzzoha.
Marking the day, Rajshahi University authorities have chalked out elaborate programmes on the campus to observe Zoha Day.
The programmes include placing wreath at the grave and monument of Zoha, hoisting of black flag on the campus, quran khwani and memorial speech.
Different socio-cultural organisations of university, including the teachers’ association and officers’ association, will hold discussions on Zoha and special prayer session seeking his salvation.
RU chemistry department, in association with the university authorities, will hold Zoha Memorial Speech at Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium of the university, with the department chairman, Professor Md Nazrul Islam, in the chair.
Information minister Hasanul Haque Inu will present the keynote paper at the programme while RU VC Professor Muhammad Mizanuddin and pro-VC Professor Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan will address the programme as chief and special guests respectively.
Professor Shamsuzzoha, the then RU proctor and a teacher of chemistry department, was shot dead by Pakistani military in front of the university main gate on February 18 in 1969 as he tried to protect the students who brought out processions violating section 144.
His death accelerated the mass movement against the Pakistan army, demanding withdrawal of historic Agartala Conspiracy Case.
