The health and family welfare minister, Mohammad Nasim, said on Sunday that the country’s first ever burn and plastic surgery institute would be named after prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
He said the ministry had already initiated a move to name the institute after Sheikh Hasina and hoped to get approval from the authorities concerned.
The prime minister is expected to lay the foundation stone of the proposed institute in the first week of March at Chankharpul near Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, Nasim told a press briefing at the secretariat.
‘A prior approval of the Bangabandhu Trust is needed to name anything after the name of any family members of Bangabandhu (Sheikh Mujibur Rahman),’ the minister explained.
The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council on November 24, 2015 approved a Tk522.39 crore project for establishing the national institute of burn and plastic surgery as a centre of excellence under the directorate general of the health services.
The project is supposed to be implemented by December 2018 to provide better treatments to burn patients at affordable costs, according to officials.
