Ritwik Ghatak retrospective begins today

A retrospective film festival dedicated to legendary Indian-Bengali director Ritwik Kumar Ghatak will begin at Bangladesh National Museum today, featuring his debut film Nagarik (1952) on the opening day.
The six-day event, organised by Chalachitram Film Society and the museum, will show all eight full-length feature films of the director as well as his short and documentary films.
Besides, Ritwik’s daughter Sanghita Ghatak’s documentary Naba Nagarik (2006), Anup Singh’s documentary Ekti Nadir Naam (2001) and Kamaleswar Mukherjee’s feature Meghe Dhaka Tara (2013) will also be screened.
Sanghita Ghatak and Jadavpur University’s film professor Sanjay Mukhapaddhya will participate in the festival, the organisers said, adding the latter will also conduct a workshop on Ritwik’s films.
The festival marks Ritwik Ghatak’s 90th birth anniversary and 40th death anniversary.
