Visiting EU delegation team meets Khaleda

A nine-member delegation from European Union, led by European parliament member Jean Lambert, called on Bangladesh Nationalist Party chairperson Khaleda Zia on Thursday.
The meeting, which lasted for about an hour from 4:35pm at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office, discussed various issues including the present political, social, economic and law and order situation of the country.
BNP standing committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan briefed the reporters about the outcome after the meeting.
He said that EU was regularly monitoring the situation of the country and that their key matters were human rights and good governance.
Moyeen said the government has to play an important role to strengthen the trade and commerce relation with EU adding that it is only possible for a people’s representative government.
Asked whether they discussed about the national election, Moyeen said BNP believes in peaceful transfer of power through election and for that holding of fair and neutral election is essential.
About human rights, he said the government was issuing threats to opposition by using the administration.
The government is instigating killing and enforced disappearances of the opposition leaders and activists, he alleged.
BNP leaders Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and Sabih Uddin Ahmed were also present at the meeting.
