The High Court on Wednesday asked the two Dhaka city corporations to inform the court by May 19 about waste management measures taken so far.
The bench of Justice Moyeenul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Iqbal Kabir issued the directive after hearing a writ petition filed on January 10 by lawyer Syed Mohidul Kabir stating that the two corporations were not going by the Act to manage waste.
The court asked the chief waste management officers of Dhaka South and North City Corporations to submit the report within three months on the waste management measures taken under the Local Government (City Corporation) Act-2009.
It asked the two city corporation mayors and waste management officers, secretary to the local government ministry and director general of the Department of Environment to explain in four weeks their failure in implementing waste management plans.
The court fixed May 19 for the next hearing on the petition.
