The national committee to protect oil, gas, mineral resources, power and ports on Tuesday urged people to forge movement against the government’s move to build a coal-based thermal power plant at Rampal in Bagerhat.
They also urged the people to participate in a five-day long-march from Dhaka to the Sunderbans, from March 10 to 15, organised by the committee protesting against the government move at a meeting held at the Shishu Kalyan Federation auditorium in the capital on Tuesday.
They said the committee was also in favour of generating electricity but not at the cost of the Sunderbans.
They demanded to the government to build the power plant in another place to save the mangrove forest.
Among others, the committee’s member secretary Anu Muhammad, Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan, Moshahida Sultana, Abdus Sattar, Ruhin Hossain Prince, Bazlur Rashid Firoz and M Enamul Haque were present at the meeting.
