The body of a minor girl was recovered from a septic tank on early Tuesday in Sylhet after being allegedly killed by her sister-in-law.
The deceased was identified as Tahmina Begum, 7, daughter of Matai Miah of village Pashchim Ashighar at Fenchuganj upazila in the district and a grade II student of Ashighar Government Primary School, police said.
The police arrested Rubina Akter, 22, wife of Tahmina’s brother Ruhel Miah, for her alleged involvement in the murder, the police said.
Tahmina’s mother Jamila Begum said her son, Ruhel, has been living with his wife in a separate house in the same village.
Quoting one of Tahmina’s classmates, Jamila alleged that Tahmina had gone to Ruhel’s home for drinking water on Monday afternoon when she was returning home from the school.
She went missing since then, Jamila added.
Officer-in-charge (investigation) of Fenchuganj police station Abdul Nasir told New Age that they recovered victim’s body packed in a sack from a septic tank of Ruhel’s home on early Tuesday.
‘The victim might have been strangulated and then the body dumped into septic tank to escape the crime,’ the officer said, adding that they found several marks of injury on the body.
He said four others were also interrogated in this regard.
‘The body was sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for autopsy. A case will be filed soon,” the officer added.
