A slum dweller at Kalyanpur was shot in the leg by police on Sunday night.
Mohammad Saju, 30, was shot in the left leg after a team of Mirpur police stormed into the slum, witnesses said.
Mirpur police station officer-in-charge Bhuyan Mahbub Hossain claimed the bullet was fired accidentally when a police team on-duty in the area entered the slum on information about illegal drug trading.
He said that constable Rizvi Ahmed was suspended for the accidental fire and a probe team was formed.
The High Court on January 21 stayed an eviction drive at the slum halfway through the drive by housing and public works ministry amid protests by the slum dwellers.
On January 22, a portion of the slum catches fire and the slum dwellers alleged that it was an act of sabotage by the men of ruling Awami League lawmaker Aslamul Haque.
Abdul Hannan, a resident of the slum, said that a police team entered the slum from the west side and took three dwellers to a nearby field.
At a dark corner, the police shot at Saju’s left leg, he said.
