A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion seized huge cache of fake medicines and unlawful drugs, which are prohibited in the country, raiding five pharmacies in the capital’s Islampur on Saturday.
The mobile court also sealed two pharmacies and fined three others with a total of Tk 4.5 lakh for selling and producing illegal medicines.
One of the owners of the closed pharmacies was jailed for six months for selling counterfeit medicines and selling public medicines, meant for free distribution.
RAB-3 assistant police superintendent Abdullahel Hadi said three pharmacies, Rahman Pharmacy, RN Pharmacy and Merry Medical Store, were penalised with Tk 4.5 lakh.
Besides, Rauf Pharmacy was sealed and its owner, Abdul Mannan was jailed with six months for selling fake government medicines.
Another pharmacy, Ivy Drugs, was shut as its owner Monir Hossain Khan fled when the RAB team approached.
After breaking open the pharmacy, the mobile court found illegal syrups similar to Phensedyl.
A case was filed against Monir.
