Youth kills wife in Sylhet

A youth hacked his wife to death in Sylhet on Friday morning following a family dispute.
The deceased was identified as Halima Begum Helena, 20, wife of Nazrul Islam Zulfikar, 24, of village Digli Khojarpara at Lamakazi union under Bishwanath upazila in the district, police said.
Family said Zulfikar, a CNG-run auto rickshaw driver, had a quarrel with his wife in the morning over a family matter. At one point, he hacked her with a machete locking the door of their bedroom, the sources said.
Hearing her scream, neighbours rushed in but could not enter the room as it was closed from inside.
Breaking open the door, they found Helena’s body with Zulfikar sitting by her holding the blood-socked machete in his hand.
They detained Zulfikar and then handed him over to the police, neighbouring sources said.
Officer-in-charge (investigation) of Bishwanath police station Masudur Rahman told New Age that Zulfikar during primary interrogation admitted that he had committed the murder, the officer said.
The body was sent to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination, Masudur said.
