Prices of broiler, egg rise in city

The prices of broiler and egg increased in the city’s kitchen markets over the week ending Friday.
Traders say the prices of the items increased as demand went up due to increase in year-end festivals like picnic and wedding party.
The price of broiler increased by Tk 10 a kg and the item was selling at Tk 150-Tk 160 a kg while the locally-bred hens were selling at Tk 280-Tk 320 a kg on Friday.
The price of egg increased by Tk 2 a hali (four pieces) and the item was selling at Tk 36 a hali in the city on the day.
The red lentil price remained high and the fine variety of the item was selling at Tk 140 a kg while the imported one (coarse variety) was selling at Tk 100 a kg over the week.
The price of local garlic was retailing at Tk 140 a kg while the imported one was selling at Tk 160 a kg on Friday.
Due to off-seasonal supply shortage the price of the item remained high, traders said.
The price of mutton remained high and the item was selling at Tk 650 a kg over the week while beef was selling at Tk 380-Tk 390 a kg.
The price of unpacked soya bean oil remained unchanged and the fine quality of the item was selling at Tk 88-Tk 90 a kg on Friday while palm oil was selling at Tk 65-Tk 67 a kg on the day.
A one-litre container of soya bean oil was selling at Tk 96-Tk 98.
The price of a five-litre container remained unchanged and the item was selling at Tk 450-Tk 470 on the city’s retail market on Friday.
The price of sugar remained high and it was selling at Tk 50 a kg over the week.
The prices of vegetables remained stable during the week.
Aubergine was selling at Tk 30-Tk 35 a kg, bitter gourd at Tk 40 a kg, cauliflower at Tk 20 a piece, cabbage at Tk 20 a piece, beans at Tk 30 a kg, cucumber at Tk 30 a kg, tomato at Tk 20 a kg, papaya at Tk 20 a kg and green chilli at Tk 60 a kg over the week.
Potato was selling at Tk 15-Tk 20 a kg over the week.
The price of onion remained unchanged. The newly-harvested local variety of onion was selling at Tk 25- Tk 30 a kg while the imported one was retailing at Tk 25-Tk 30 a kg on Friday.
The prices of fish remained unchanged over the week. Rohita was selling at Tk 200-Tk 320 a kg, katla at
Tk 200-Tk 300 a kg, pangas at Tk 140-Tk 200 a kg and tilapia at Tk 120-Tk 180 a kg, depending on their size and quality.
The coarse variety of miniket rice was retailing at Tk 46-Tk 48 a kg while fine variety of miniket was selling at Tk 48-Tk 52 a kg. The fine variety of najirshail rice was selling at Tk 54-Tk 58 a kg over the week. The fine variety of BR-28 rice was selling at Tk 45-Tk 46 a kg and the coarse variety was selling at Tk 40-Tk 42 a kg on Friday.
