EKRAMUL MURDER : Court asked to complete trial in 6 months

The Appellate Division on Thursday asked a Feni court to complete the trial of the case for the murder of Phulgazi upazila chairman Ekramul Haque in six months.
A four-member bench of the Appellate Division led by chief justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order after hearing a government petition against a High Court order that granted bail to detained accused Jahangir Kabir Adel.
The highest court also scrapped the High Court order passed on November 16, 2015 granting bail to Adel, also joint general secretary of Feni district unit of the ruling Awami League, in the case.
The government then filed a petition with the Appellate Division for staying the High Court order.
Later, the chamber judge stayed Adel’s bail following the government petition and referred the petition for a full court hearing, , said deputy attorney general Khondker Diliruzzaman.
He said that Adel, one of the 56 accused named in the charge sheet, would not be released from jail until the trial court disposes of the case.
Ekramul, also the Phulgazi upazila AL president, was shot and burnt alive by miscreants inside his car in Feni town on May 20, 2014.
New Age correspondent in Feni reported that the Feni District and Sessions Judge’s Court was scheduled for February 10 for framing of charges in the cases.
