Govt official’s wife found dead in capital

Police recovered the body of a woman at Kafrul in the capital on early Thursday.
The deceased was identified as Mahmuda Begum, 38, wife of Jahurul Islam, an auditor of food and disaster management ministry, police said.
The officer-in-charge of Kafrul police, Shikder Shamim Hossain, said Mahmuda’s throat was slit open with a country kitchen knife (‘boti’) around 12:30am on Thursday. Hearing her scream, her son Maruf rushed to her room and found her profusely bleeding.
Her husband and police took Mahmuda to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital.
Rafiqul Islam, sub-inspector of Kafrul police station, said Mahmuda’s relatives and her two sons had told police that she had been suffering from psychological disorders.
Police suspected that she might have committed suicide, the SI said. An unnatural death case was filed with the police station.
