Four artisans to get awards

Four artisans will get awards at the opening ceremony of an annual craft fair at the Gyan Tapash Abdur Razzak Bidyapith in Dhanmondi starting tomorrow.
The awardees come from a diverse array of disciplines including Razzak (textile), Anup Nag (conch), Nittya Malakar (shola) and Bijli Rani Pal (clay). They will get taka 50,000, a crest and a certificate of appreciation each, said a press release.
Bengal Foundation and Bangladesh Jatiya Karushilpo Parishad have been organising the fair and recognising the work of local artisans since 2010.
Folk and Craft Museum director Rabindra Gope, human rights activist Sultana Kamal and eminent textile craft-maker Sarat Mala will be present at the opening ceremony.
The fair, which will remain open for all from 11am to 8pm every day until February 8, will feature different types of handmade objects including shola, conch, clay toys, handloom sari, and crafts of small ethnic communities, jute, quilt, lungi, metal, bamboo products and scroll paintings.
Since its inception, a total of 67 craft-makers of different disciplines have been awarded in the fair.
