An eight-month old infant survived after he was thrown away from the third floor of a six-storey building allegedly by her mother on Baily Road in the capital.
The Ramna police sub-inspector, Aminul Islam, said a teenage girl, who works as a housemaid for a couple in the capital’s Baily Road area, gave birth to the boy. Police could not say who fathered the baby.
Aminul said that the teen mother allegedly dropped her baby through the window of the apartment house, wrapping him in a plastic shopping bag.
The baby boy miraculously survived after landing on the rooftop of a tin-shed building beneath.
Hearing his screams, local shopkeepers rescued the boy and rushed him to Ad-din Women’s Medical College and Hospital at Moghbazar with support from law enforcers, the police official said.
Later, police visited the spot and took the mother to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital for treatment.
Police launched an investigation into the incident, Aminul said.
He said the 15-year old domestic help had been working for nine years at the house of one Azmal Hossain near Pitha Ghar on Baily Road.
