Army chief elected as BOA president

The current chief of army staff, General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, on Sunday was elected as the president of Bangladesh Olympic Association unopposed.
The election formalities were completed on Sunday after former chief of army staff General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan stepped down from the post following his retirement from army.
The executive committee of BOA accepted general Bhuiyan’s resignation in November.
General Belal was the only candidate who submitted nomination paper for the vacant post.
‘The election commission announced him [General Belal] the president of BOA as no one else showed any interest,’ BOA’s deputy secretary general Badal Roy said.
The BOA latter in a press release said General Belal will take over the charge on October 31.
Earlier, General Bhuiyan agreed to remain in the
post until January following a request of BOA high-ups.
The position of BOA chief is traditionally reserved for the army chief in Bangladesh.
