The police said on Thursday the prime suspect in the murder of five people in Narayanganj on Saturday confessed to killing the victims to revenge on his aunt, who spurned his offer of an illicit relation.
The investigators said Mahfuzur Rahman was insulted and beaten in a family arbitration over his illicit relations with Lamia Begum, one of the five victims, few months ago and he had planned to kill Lamia out of revenge.
The police said Lamia had turned down the proposal of Mahfuz and blamed him for a rape attempt.
Senior judicial magistrate Saiduzzaman Sharif in Narayanganj on Thursday recorded his statement under Section 164.
The police investigators said Mahfuzur Rahman confessed to his crime and described how he killed the five relatives one after another in an overnight mission that began early Friday inside their rented house in the city in an unplanned way.
‘Mahfuz alone had killed the five of the family with shil-pata [locally made crushers used in kitchen],’ district superintendent of police Mahid Uddin, who was leading the murder investigation, told a press conference after Mahfuz made his confessional statement.
On Saturday night, the police found five people, including two children, of a family, murdered in a rented house at Baburail in Narayanganj.
The victims include Taslima Begum, 40, her daughters Shanto, 10, and Sumaiya, 5, and Taslima’s brother Morshed, 30, and her brother-in-law’s wife Lamia Akhter, 25. They were from Mymensingh and lived in Dhaka before.
They had moved to Narayanganj in October last and rented a house at a building owned by one US-expatriate Ismail Hossain.
