Mahfuz killed all five victims, says Narayanganj SP

Narayanganj superintendent of police Mahid Uddin on Thursday said Mahfuzur Rahman, the nephew of Shafiqul Islam, killed all the victims including his aunts and children by turn.
Mahfuz, the lone killer, was involved in the killing to take revenge of being rebuked as he had an illicit relation with his aunt Lamia Akhter, wife of Shafiqul’s brother, he said.
The police super was speaking to the newsmen at a press briefing held at his office this noon.
Mahfuz used a pestle to hit on heads’ of all the victims, and the police seized it as evidence according to his statement, the SP said.
Earlier, Mahfuz made statement before a judicial magistrate court around 12:00pm confessing his guilt into the murder incidents.
Judicial magistrate Saiduzzaman Sharif recorded the statement made by Mahfuz after three days of his remand under police custody.
On Monday, a judicial magistrate’s court put Mahfuz on seven-day remand in connection with the killing.
The district police, meanwhile, transferred the murder case to the detective branch and appointed its officer-in-charge Mamunur Rashid Mandal as the investigation officer.
The police on Monday disclosed that the case filed by Shafiqul Islam on Sunday, had named Mahfuz as a suspect.
On Saturday night, the police found five people, including two children, of a family, murdered in a rented house in number 2 Baburail area in Narayanganj.
The victims were: Taslima Begum, 40, her daughter Sumaiya, 10, and son Shanta, 5, Taslima’s brother Moshedul, 30, and her brother-in-law’s wife Lamia Akhter, 25. The family hailed from Mymensingh and lived in Dhaka before. They had moved to Narayanganj in October last year and rented an flat owned by one Bangladeshi expat in the US, Ismail Hossain.
