The Bangladesh Cricket Board on Sunday included uncapped batsman Mossaddek Hossain and pace bowler Muktar Ali in their 14-member squad for the last two Twenty20 internationals against Zimbabwe as Mushfiqur Rahim was ruled out for injury.
Four changes were made from the squad that featured in the first two T20I against Zimbabwe as along with the duo Mohammad Shahid and Taskin Ahmed were also included in the squad.
The quartet replaced Shuvagata Hom, Al-Amin Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman and Mushfiq.
Pacers Al-Amin and Mustafiz were rested and Mushfiq was ruled out due to his hamstring injury that he sustained while he was batting in the second match.
‘He [Mushfiq] will undergo a scan in Dhaka tomorrow [Monday],’ national team physiotherapist Baizidul Islam was quoted in a BCB press release.
‘Usually it takes two to three weeks to recover from such injuries. However, we will be able to assess his condition better after receiving the scan report,’ it said.
Experiment is the word that dominated the series from the beginning and selectors were keen to continue with it in pursuit of forming a strong T20 unit ahead of the Asia Cup and ICC World Twenty20.
‘We are looking forward to see who fits in where in our T20 squad,’ selector Minhajul Abedin told New Age on Sunday.
‘Saikat [Mosaddek] is someone whom we are considering at number six or seven. He has the potential to play a lot of innovative shots,’ he said.
‘As far as Muktar is concerned there is no proper pace bowling all-rounder in our squad to replace Mashrafee [bin Murtaza].
‘He came in because along with his bowling he can also bat,’ he said.
Shahid has already played five Test matches but likewise the two rookies, the paceman received his first call-up in the national T20 squad and the selector said he was brought in after his good performance in recently concluded Bangladesh Premier League.
‘Shahid bowled well in BPL so we want to have a look at him,’ he added.
Shahid and Mosaddek had been training with the Bangladesh team in Khulna since January 9 while Muktar joined a couple of days ago.
Mossaddek became a known figure after hitting three double-hundreds in first-class cricket last year.
Muktar is a utility all-round cricketer who predominantly bowls medium-pace.
