5 of family slaughtered at N’ganj home Dead include 2 children

At least five members of a family, including two children and two women, were slaughtered to death at their residence under sadar police station in Narayanganj district on Saturday.
The victims were identified as sister-in-laws Taslima Akter, 40, and Lamia Akter 35, and Taslima’s two daughters Shanta, 10 and Sumaiya 5. Taslima’s brother Morshedul Alam, 30, was also among the victims lying sprawled in a pool of blood.
Taslima and Lamia were married to the brothers Shafiqul Islam and Shariful Islam. Truck drivers by profession, the husbands were outside the house when the killings took place and were yet to return till the filing of this report.
Officer-in-charge of Narayanganj Sadar police Abdul Malek said the family started living at the residence since last month.
The victims were tenants at ground floor of a five-storey building owned by Ismail Mia at N0-2 Baburail Khankha Sharif area of Narayanganj city.
Sadar Police Station’s OC (investigation) Mohammad Shahjalal said they were informed of the killing at 9:45pm.
On Saturday morning, when the Shariful did not get any response from his family members despite repeated phone calls, he asked his mother-in-law Hasina Begum and sister-in-law Nayantara, living in Mymensingh, to go and inspect them.
On arrival at the house in the afternoon, Hasina and Nayantara found the door locked from the outside, peeked through the ventilator, and saw the dead bodies.
The family informed the police who arrived and broke the lock to enter the house.
Narayanganj city corporation ward councilor Hazi Wabaidulla said he saw the blood-soaked bodies lying sprawled across two rooms.
‘I never saw such brutal killing before,’ he said.
Hasina Begum, mother of slain Morshedul said that she had last spoken to her son at 12am Friday night.
The family originally hails from Mymensingh’s Nandail, Charbela Para village, confirmed Morshed’s sister Nayantara.
Senior officials of police and Rapid Action Battalion visited the crime scene. ‘This is under investigation and we will speak in detail later,’ said police superintendent of Narayanganj Dr Khandaker Mohid Uddin.
