Panels formed to probe negligence of cops on polls-duty

The Police Headquarters on Thursday formed two panels to look into whether on-duty policemen were responsible for the postponement of voting in six polling centres during Wednesday’s municipal polls.
The Election Commission on Wednesday suspended five policemen in Chandnaish municipality of Chittagong and Kalkini of Madaripur for negligence of duty during the municipal polls.
A three-member inquiry team was formed with Additional DIG of Chittagong Range Md Mahbur Rahman as its head while Commandant of Chittagong RRF Md Masud Karim member secretary and SP of PBI Chittagong Md Julfikar Ali Haider as its member,reports United News of Bangladesh.
The committee will look into the reasons which forced the postponement of voting in Shilmori North Union Parishad polling centre of Barura municipality in Comilla district and in three polling centres of Chandanish municipality in Chittagong district.
Another committee was formed headed by Additional DIG of Dhaka Range MD Shafiqul Islam with its other members being AIG Md Abul Kalam Siqqique of Police HQs and PBI SP Md Mostafa Kamal.
The committee will inquire about the reasons behind the postponement of polling in two polling centres of Kalkini municipality in Madaripur district.
The two committees have been asked to submit their reports within next seven workdays.
