Ganajagaran Manch brought out a torch rally in the city on Thursday evening rejecting the verdict in the blogger Rajib Haider killing case.
The Manch activists carrying torches in their hands started the rally from Shahbagh intersection around 5:45pm.
The procession ended at the starting point after parading Dhaka University’s Teacher Student Centre, reports United News of Bangladesh.
Speaking on the occasion, Manch spokesperson Imran H Sarkar said the killers of Rajib Haider were not handed down the due punishment.
He also said the verdict does not reflect the government’s decision to show zero tolerance to militancy. ‘Such verdict will encourage militants to continue their killing missions once they will be out from jail,’ Imran said.
Earlier in the day, a speedy trial tribunal of Dhaka convicted seven people of killing blogger Ahmed Rajib Haider and sentenced two of them to death and one to life imprisonment.
On February 15, 2013, Ahmed Rajib Haidar, an activist of Ganajagarn Manch, was stabbed to death near his house at Mirpur Palash Nagar in the capital.
