The Border Guard Bangladesh and police on Wednesday imposed a temporary ban on tourism at Thanchi of Bandarban due to security lapses and strong current in rivers and waterfalls.
The restricted areas are Tindu, Remakhi, Nafakum fall and Baramawdak.
Commanding officer of 33 BGB battalion at Balipara, Kamrul Islam, said earlier a herd of wild elephants came out from the hill and in the remote tourism areas so they imposed a ban to visit those places for few days.
Bandarban BGB sector commander Colonel Waliur Rahman said a strong current occurred at several areas of Tindu so the ban was imposed for security measures.
The ban would be withdrawn within next Saturday to Sunday, he said.
Meanwhile, the locals said BGB imposed the ban to recover an weapon that went missing last month when a boat with BGB men onboard capsized at the stony areas of Tindu.
The BGB members were returning after conducting a drive there over the Arakan army (Myanmar separatist group) attack.
