Police on Wednesday held at least 16 protesters from city’s Shahbagh area while they were demonstrating seeking cancellation of admission tests to medical and dental colleges for leak out of question papers after beating them up severely.
The admission seekers have been protesting for last 12 days demanding fresh admission test of medical and dental collages.
Additional deputy police commissioner Ibrahim Khan said they arrested few protesters from Shahbag area this morning.
Witnesses said the protesters formed demonstration at Teachers-student center in Dhaka University around 10:00am.
Around 11:00am they held a rally towards Shahbagh intersection while police attacked on them and beat them up with the butts of their arms.
During the agitation a female student’s dress was torn up, witnesses said.

Deputy Commissioner of Ramna zone Abdul Baten said police arrested some protesters as they were disturbing the vehicular movements.
After questioning about the beating and the harassment of female student he said the protesters attacked on the law enforcers but if police had imposed any excessive pressure that would be probed.
Later the rest of the protesters held a press briefing at central Sheheed Minar while they demanded immediate release of their fellows and alleged that police without any pre-notice attacked of the peaceful demonstration.
The protesting admission seekers would hold demonstration on Thursday around10:00am at central Sheheed Minar and urged all the aspirants of Medical and dental colleges across the country to join with them.
