The minister for home affairs, Asaduzzaman Khan, on Wednesday said the murder of Italian national Tavella Cesare was an isolated incident which does not warrant widespread ‘red alert’ by various diplomatic missions in Dhaka to their citizens in Bangladesh.
The minister also said Bangladesh government was yet to confirm whether Islamic State had any involvement with the murder in the secured diplomatic zone.
He made the remarks after Italian ambassador in Dhaka Mario Palma met him at his office in the wake of the murder of Tavella.
Asaduzzaman said there were similarities on the issues which agencies of both Bangladesh and Italy are suspecting as grounds for the murder.
Responding to a question, the minister said the law enforcers could hardy ascertain anything from the video footage as the area was dark in between 6:15pm and 6:30pm. ‘But there are witnesses and they would help to find out the culprits. Our agencies are working on,’ he said.
He said Italy too believes that the IS might not have any involvement with the murder but they laid stress on finding out any possible conflict over activities of NGOs since Tavella was an NGO worker.
